This is the prototype for my new Orbital Earrings kit! I came up with the design when I was making some frog earrings for a friend. I was trying to bezel a frog bead, but I had too many beads on my first pass. Then, I thought, “What if I put too many beads on purpose?” So, I tried it on a super fun disco ball accent bead and after tons of ripping to get the bead sizes and counts right, the Orbital Earrings were born.
Here are the colorways I am working on:
- The first one I will call Sunset since the gorgeous 16mm bead has orange and red, with a hint of plum. I need a nice plum 11/0 to go with it. I’m really surprised I don’t have the right purple for this because the majority of my stash is purple!
- The second colorway has a dark bronze 16mm bead paired with these amazing Metallic Raspberry Copper Iris Matte drops that Ralonda suggested. We finally found them online at Charlene’s Beads, and now I need another good purple 11/0. This colorway needs a name. Any suggestions?
- The third colorway is Galaxy. I will use the black 18mm beads pictured if I can’t find anymore disco ball beads. Val at Artful Bead is looking for me, and I may try looking at the bead market on Saturday.
I will have these kits available for purchase online in March, and I will be teaching it at the Shreveport Bead Retreat in April. Please leave a comment below if you have any suggestions for a name for the second colorway, or to tell me which is your favorite. Thanks!
