[Video] Organization Vacation

Wow, I can’t believe I’m doing this. I’m baring my soul and showing you footage of my studio as it really is!

I’m sharing this because its a natural expression of who I really am: a creative soul that moves from one project to the next like whirlwind, and shoves things out of the way haphazardly for the next new project. I’ve come to realize how much more creative and productive I can be if I placed limits on my whirlwind. If I let my materials surround and inspire me, and if I could find the beads before the idea floats away.

So, I invite you to follow along on this journey with me, and even pick up a few organization tips along the way. Thanks to Elizabeth for inspiring me to live my truth!

Awesome, Mandi! I have a similar mess going on over here. Congratulations to you for sharing your truth – and I look forward to seeing how this project progresses over the next five days. Good Luck!

Mandi- I would love to have all that room! I would love to be able to contain my stuff to just one room!

Hello Mandi, I live in New Zealand and have just found your site. the first that has appealed to me. I am looking forward to the changes you make with your storage and searching your site for ideas and hints. Regards Barbara

Thanks, Diane! I hope this series will be inspiring to people, and it feels surprisingly awesome to share the whole truth :)

Ralonda, I am blessed that my DH allowed me to take over the entire second bedroom for my bead studio!

Barbara, Thanks for commenting! I plan to share everything that works and doesn’t work for me, and the next post will be about my plan of attack :)

You are so brave to share your craft room with us pre-organization vacation! My room was looking pretty similar last weekend, and I made my first stab at reorganizing. One benefit to waiting a loooong time to do it is that I could recycle many things!

Mandi, your blog inspires me, and I love your creativity. I named you as one of the people who inspires me, and you can pass the award forward if you visit my blog to get the graphic. Thanks for your great ideas!

Thanks for your comment and compliments, Deb : ) I’m glad you are organizing and recycling, too! It feels fabulous, doesn’t it?

    Mandi,

Wow, you’re brave. I posted a video on my Quitters site and behind me it looked neat and clean. But the rest of the room is pretty disorganized. However, like you, I’m working on getting more organized because I think it’s essential to running a business and keeping on top of things.

    Good luck with your project.

    All the best!
    Scott

    Hi mandi

Your studio (guest room) is looking a little tidier than mine lol. I spent 2 days clearing my 8yr old son’s bedroom last week, and this week/weekend is my Bead Room’s turn yay. I can’t wait to start, as i need to get back up there and create! I have been using my husbands office for months as that is where the computer is, but that is soon all going to change!

Organisation is a big problem for me too, i have bookcases like you, and some draw storage units on there, but i need other storage supplies too. Then like you i have to decide on how i am going to store my beads and supplies. I normally do all my glass beads by colour in zip lock bags in drawers, then a drawer for wire, stringing materials, acrylic beads, findings etc. Then my swarovski crystals are sorted by size (a drawer for each size i have) then my findings are in mini drawers in ziplock bags by type i.e. earwires, headpins, eyepins, lobster clasps, toggle clasps etc.

Oooh the scope for organising is just way to vast hehe.

Hope your sort out goes well. I shall have to take before and after pics of my bead room ‘organisation vacation’ too :o)

Hi Scott, Thanks for stopping by and commenting! I’m sure its that way for many of us who do videos, hehe : )

@Carol You hit the nail on the head: there is no one way to organize and there is not one system that will work for everyone. I’m glad its your bead room’s turn, and I will be excited to see the before and after pics!!

I have cleared out the room now, just put everything into boxes (which is cluttering up the landing of my house lol) so now one by one i am going to go through the boxes, and if i haven’t used it in the past 6-12months, its going!

Its hard to believe how much non-beading stuff was dumped in my poor bead room! Everything got put in there while we sorted out my bedroom, and when hubby’s office was gutted and re-decorated.

I will be glad when its finally finished though, it looked worse 2hrs into starting the project than it did before i started lol.

Do you have pics of your finished efforts now?
